MTN Uganda in November last year partnered with Fero Mobile to launch an entry-level smartphone; the Fero A4001 Plus onto the market to enable more Ugandans to get connected to the internet. The handset rolled out at the start of the festive season, and within a month, the handset was reported out-of-stock, yet the demand was still high.

After 3 months of wait, MTN Uganda has today announced the return of the Fero A4001 Plus which will be available in all MTN service centers at a bargain price of 129,000 UGX and comes with 2GB of data Valid for 30 days and a phone cover.

Olivier Prentout, the CMO MTN Uganda told the press that the company (MTN Uganda) was overwhelmed by the demand of the smartphone when they introduced it to the Ugandan market.

“Demand is driven by the need to own or gift someone an internet enabled phone at an affordable price,” he said.

MTN Uganda has the ambition to have reached 95% data connectivity by 2020 from the 50% coverage currently. This growth in data connectivity will be made possible by MTN’s continued investment in the infrastructure and also the growth in the usage of the internet through smartphones.

MTN has an estimated 1.9 million smartphone users, a figure that is still growing. To facilitate the future of communications, data, cheaper handsets like the Fero A4001 Plus are an option.

“Recently we reduced prices on data bundles to ensure smartphone users get more MBs for less. The Fero handset comes with 2GB of internet data, meaning that customers can enjoy our affordable data rates using an affordable smartphone,” Prentout said.
