GDG SLAU Holds It’s First DevFest Around YouTube And Android Wear

IMG_20141025_130225[1]On Saturday 25th October, Google Developer Group SLAU located at St. Lawrence University in Kampala held their first ever developer festival at the university main campus. The event was one in series with the global developer festival in Google Developer Groups(GDG) across the globe.

During the event the attendees where taken through what is new in Android and there was also an Android Codelab. Under the global theme for this devfest which focused on Android Wear, the students where able to tryout the LG G Watch and how to design for different form factors.

I happened to be one of the speakers this day and I took the group through a focused design sprint for Android Wear, which started with understanding the user (personas), then the group had to diverge and find different ways to help their personas individually and later as a group. The group had to decide which idea would be implemented based on it’s value to the user(Persona) and the it’s level of technical complexity to implement. The last bit of our design sprint was to prototype the experience for the persona.

Later In the evening the students were taken through Creating a YouTube channel and how to make money from YouTube. The session also included how to integrate YouTube APIs in your App to be able to stream videos for your Users.

The Organizers of this event Mr. Kyuka Isaac and Mugisha Douglas thanked the attendees for turning up for this DevFest and they also thanked Google for sponsoring such Initiatives.
