Twitter New Update Displays Algorithmic and Chronological Timelines Side-by-Side
Twitter rolls out its “For You” and “Following” dual-timeline replacing “Home” (algorithmic) and “Latest” (chronological) timelines.
Twitter is rolling out a new update to its iOS app and the web interface which displays “For You” and “Following” dual-timeline view — a similar concept to that of TikTok. With this new update, users swipe between tabs to see tweets recommended “For you” or tweets from the accounts that they are “Following.”
The update will come to Android users in the coming weeks.
The micro-blogging site renamed “Home” (algorithmic timeline) and “Latest” (chronological timeline) to “For You” and “Following” taking away the star button at the top right that let you switch between two feeds.
“The “For you” and “Following” tabs replace “Home” and “Latest” and will be pinned to the top of your timeline so you can easily switch between them,” Twitter wrote on its Twitter Support page. “Swipe to switch timelines instead of tapping the star icon.”
The “Home” and “Latest” timeline didn’t stick around for long following pronounced backlash from users who didn’t like the idea that the Home tab was being foisted on them.
Twitter boss, Elon Musk first hinted on the change in December last year, in a tweet saying, “Main timeline should allow for an easy sideways swipe between the top, latest, trending and topics that you follow.” “With two of those now implemented, we could see further changes down the road.”
“Easy swipe right/left to move between recommended vs followed tweets rolls out later this week. First part of a much larger UI overhaul. Bookmark button (de facto silent like) on Tweet details rolls out a week later. Long form tweets early Feb,” Musk said in a tweet.
