The Minister of Finance; Hon. Matia Kasaija officially opens the on-going eGovernment Expo at the garden city in Kampala. The expo organized by National Information Technology Association (NITA) Uganda runs from today till Friday 21st, June 2019.
The two day expo comes prior to the eGovernment awards that will be held on Thursday 27th, June at the Speke Resort Munyonyo.
NITA Uganda earlier this week confirmed 50 government MDAs and other private companies — participating in the on-going expo. Among a few participating include; URA, NIRA, URSB, NSSF, and Ministries including; the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Sports, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries.
“We have 50 exhibitors that have confirmed and believe that this event will provide a remarkable platform for the public sector players to share their service delivery journeys,” NITA wrote in a statement.
The Minister applauded NITA and its partners for organizing the event asking them to carry out such events more often. He emphasizes that the expo(s) will show Ugandans how modern technology is improving lives through increased production and productivity.
He called upon all Ugandans most especially the educated ones to learn these new technologies, as he claimed will help them produce more. He went on to say that the non-educated ones are depending on the educated ones. Hence, giving them more reason to learn more about these new technologies.
“I’m appealing to all the youth to use these new technologies to become efficient with your developments” said Kasaija.
NITA is integrating all government systems to enhance government service delivery to citizens, non-citizens, businesses and to Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Notably, currently MDAs systems operate in silos with limited data sharing, causing a hindrance to government in realizing the full potential of ICT in the social and economic transformation of the country.
This integration promises access to all government services via the new introduced e-citizen portal via the web portal, www.ecitizen.go.ug.
NITA Uganda’s Executive Director; Mr. James Saaka emphasized the importance of the integration exercise to the public — as reduction of manual processes and a one stop for online government services and citizen information.
This would improve transparency in government procurement’s via the e-Procurement system and use of shared services for core business functions.
With the e-Citizen’s portal, allows all users to access services such as eTax, Business registration, trading license registration and social security statements among others — without going to a particular head office or serivce centre such as URA or URSB, UMEME to get the service.
About 50+ Government MDAs have already been integrated to the portal and citizens can easily access the services online.
