NITA-U Launch the e-Government Excellence Awards

The National Information Technology Authority (NITA) Uganda launch their e-Government Excellence Awards. The launch held at breakfast and press briefing at Skyz Hotel in Kampala saw officials from KCCA, NIRA, Ministry of ICT & National Guidance, JLOS, among others attend.

The awards ceremony were officiated by Peter Kahiigi, the Act. Executive Director of NITA Uganda on behalf of James Saaka.

The awards are to recognize the various government agencies that have played a remarkable role in availing online government service to the public.

The awards come in seven categories — Best eService in; Justice, Law & Order, Health, Agriculture, Education, Accountability, Citizen’s Choice. The 7th awarded shall be awarded to the CIO (Chief Information Officer) of the year.

The award ceremonial is scheduled for June 28th at the Speke Resort Munyonyo.

On behalf of NITA Uganda’s ED; James Saaka, Peter said the awards main aim is to share experiences with various government entities across the country.

He added that the environment is ripe for the government to have an expanded online presence.

“Citizens can now access information easier with more than 70% of Ugandans having mobile phones. 98% of government offices having fully functional websites. 319 government applications are up and running. 81 e-Government services are now accessible through the e-citizens portal,” said Peter.

NITA Uganda has partnered with Ernst Young to ensure that there is a high caliber of adjudication and quality assurance, thereby delivering a credible and reputable vetting process.

A campaign will as well be held focusing on sensitizing the government, public and private sectors on the critical role ICT plays in transforming service delivery, job creation and accelerating socio-economic development.

During the campaign, MDAs will also participate in a two-day expo from the 20th to 21st June at the Garden City roof top. The expo open to the public to attend — will see MDAs showcase their eServices and the journey taken thus far.
