itel Mobiles last year launched the A-series flagship phone, the itel A16, themed under Smartphone For Everyone. The company wants to revolutionize the industry by making its handsets affordable to everyone.
itel Mobiles is with no doubt know for manufacturing entry-level smartphones that have leverage the African market. Most of the consumers buying most of the company’s handsets are mostly first time smartphone holders. However, they are still fit to be carried by anyone till they would feel like upgrading to mid-range and high-end smartphones that come much expensive.
The itel A16 being the latest in the itel’s A-series and successor to the A15 is targeting mostly consumers in rural areas that don’t own a smartphone, as well as be able to have them connect with the rest of the world through social media. According to itel, in this tech-era, consumers should migrate from using feature phones to smartphones. And the itel A16 would be the starting price.
Launched late last year coming towards Dec., the phone to date is the perfect gift you could give to your loved ones mostly in the rural areas of Uganda.
PC Tech Magazine received one of the handsets for review — a Champagne Gold color variant, but does come in Midnight Black as well. But in this article we share the unboxing and a quick review to a smartphone for everyone.
Like most of itel Mobiles, the itel A16 comes a small roughly about 6-inch wide box colored in white with red through. On opening the box (consumers should not accept if the seal is broken), the 5-Inch smartphone in your color option, sits on top while its accessories including; a removable 2,050 removable battery, 3.5mm headphones, a USB data & charging cable, and a charging brick are packed underneath.
Inserting the battery into the phone grants you 20% power, but its highly recommend to fully charge before usage.
Quick Review
The itel A16 is a well fit entry-level smartphone. In partnership with Google, itel incorporated the Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) into the A16, which is specifically tailored to facilitate a smooth and fast experience for the device – considering that it has a 512MB of RAM, paired with a Quad-Core 1.3GHz processor.
The itel A16 gives consumers 8GB of on-board storage that is expandable with a microSD card of up to 64GB. For consumers in the rural setting, 8GB work for them and when expanded, it’s best.
The 2,050mAh guarantees a day of usage on a single charge whether at minimal, optimal or maximum usage. Well this is on our first test while we shall prove this in our full review.
The camera performance, weighed as an entry-level smartphone is average. It comes with a single 5MP rear shooter and 2MP front camera.
Price and Availability
The itel is priced at UGX180,000 availability in all itel outlets. Comes in a Champagne Gold and Midnight Black color options.
