TaxifyBoda Launches to Compete With SafeBoda & Rumored UberBoda

TaxifyBoda is here!

Earlier this week, we reported that ride-sharing firm; Uber is planning on launching moto-taxi demand service in Uganda following its success in Bangkok, Thailand and India that have a wide usage of Motorbikes. Same case here in Uganda, with over 10,000’s of motobike-taxi we think it would be success, since its cab services is performing well.

Their launch will come in the way of SafeBoda who are pioneers in this. Having successfully leveraged their competitive advantages drivers since 2014 with over 1000’s of safeboda riders.

While that is being in plans, one other transportation network firm; Taxify have today launched their moto-taxi demand service in Uganda dubbed; TaxifyBoda. This follows after the Estonia-based firm launched its cab-service in Kampala last year in October. It was reported that hundreds of drivers signed up to the platform accepting rides anywhere in the city. Since their launch, it’s said that the firm is working just well.

The launch of their moto-taxi demand service is to cease it’s strongest competition; SafeBoda.

The company didn’t have to launch a separate application from its original Taxify app. Instead they’ve added a new feature that will support moto-taxis’.

At a press launch held at the Kampala serena hotel, Shivachi Muleji, East Africa’s Regional Supply Manager, said – Moto-taxis are a good product for the people of Kampala as it fits well into the culture. Adding that its a category that has great potential to provide a steady source of income to many people in Uganda.

“At Taxify, we’re always sensitive to the needs of local markets. Our main goal is to provide the most convenient, affordable and reliable way to move from place to place within cities,” he said.

Taxify has taken measures to ensure that certain guidelines are followed to protect both riders and passengers by carrying out due diligence pre-trip, first aid training for riders and providing rider gear. This is not different from what their competitors Safeboda are doing.

Taxify Boda will charge UGX500 Base fare, UGX70 per minute, UGX400 per KM, and UGX1000 minimum fare.

Proper registration is a requirement for riders to join the platform and Taxify is working closely with government agencies to enable boda riders go through the registration process smoothly which also helps ensure safety and reliability.
