How uber riders in Kampala used the service during the New Year’s Eve

Although Uber isn’t 100% safe way to travel, after an incident happen on August 8th, 2016, when a university student was robbed, and thrown out of the car, still remains a convenient way to get a safe, reliable and affordable ride.

The case that happened was the first Uber related crime being reported to have taken place in Kampala since it’s launch. Uber Uganda in a tweet said they had resolved the situation, and still looked further in it.

The company on December 12th, 2016 shared guidelines for Uber riders and drivers they ought to follow to avoid being banned from using the service. Even though the company specified that the guidelines were meant for US citizens only, there is a very good chance that the mentioned problematic behavior can get you into trouble with the company anywhere around the world.

Ending 2016, many people preferred to use the service which might have seemed to be more of fun and safe than them driving, or using any other means. The ride-hailing service on Wednesday showed a few fun statistics of how Uber riders in Kampala used the service during the New Year’s celebration.

“After several New Year’s Eves under our belt, we’ve learned that millions of people in cities around the world rely on Uber for a safe, reliable ride to and from their celebrations,” Uber writes in a blog post

Uber’s spotlight on how riders in Kampala used Uber when ringing in the New Year:

  1. The biggest party hopper took 4 rides throughout the evening.
  2. 53 riders arrived just in time to ring in the New Year, getting out of their Ubers within 9 minutes of midnight.
  3. 33 riders used uber’s split fare feature when heading to and from their celebrations!
  4. Over 70% of rides were at normal price.
