Airtel Uganda Launches its 4G LTE network

Airtel Uganda has this morning launched it 4G LTE service.

The announcement was made at a press briefing which took place at Kampala Serena Hotel, and and attended by the ICT Minister Hon Frank Tumwebaze.

Airtel has invested heavily in the upgrade with 404 across Kampala, Entebbe and Wakiso and a further 126 sites across the country.

Mr. V.G. Somasekhar, the Airtel Managing Director stated that customers will have an overall improved internet experience at the most affordable rates.

The launch comes just two weeks after Airtel revised its data pricing in a bid to remain the most affordable telecommunications company in Uganda.

Hon Frank Tumwebaze congratulated the management and staff if Airtel upon the momentus achievement saying that one of the key responsibilities of the government is to provide a conducive environment and policy for investors.

Customers who want to join the experience will have to swap their 2G and 3G SIM cards to 4G – free of charge, and get an extra 4G with the new swapped SIM.

Customers new to the network will buy a 4G SIM at only UGX 2000, and the new SIM comes with 1GB data.
