MTN Launch ‘Pay Mpolampola’ To Allow Customers Buy Phones in Installments

Pay Mpolampola financing scheme from MTN Uganda will allow customers get smartphones and pay in installments over a specified period.

MTN Uganda on Friday launched an easy payment plan ‘Pay Mpolampola’ that will allow customers get smartphones and pay in installments over a specified period. The scheme is first of its kind from the telco and places MTN at the forefront of innovation in the telecom industry in Uganda.

MTN Uganda Chief Marketing Officer Mr. Sen Somdev said the idea behind the scheme is to give Ugandans access to the internet through easing affordability of smartphones.

“MTN believes the everyone deserves the benefit of a modern connected life and we have since 2011 implemented various strategies to make access to the internet more affordable and accessible to all,” says Somdev.

He further explained that while many people would like to enjoy the experience of the internet, access to affordable smartphones still remains a challenge. “With the introduction of Pay Mpolampola and availability of affordable smartphones, MTN will be putting internet and its benefits in the hands of many more Ugandans.” he stays.

Somdev goes on to emphasize that the new financing scheme is not a loan scheme. “We are not a financial institution, and this is not a loan. MTN is just providing access to high end quality phones but on an instalment payment basis,” he said.

The scheme is still limited to selected parts of the country and will later be rolled out to other parts of the country.

Kick starting Pay Mpolampola, MTN unveiled its MTN Kabode entry–level smartphone that customers will initially be able to buy under the scheme.

MTN Kabode is reported to have a long battery life and comes with a 5.5-Inch display, 2MP and 5MP front and rear cameras respectively. The entry-level smartphone comes with pre-installed apps including MyMTN, Ayoba, WhatsApp, Tidal, and Facebook, among others.

Customers that purchase the phone will get free MBs every month as they pay for the phone in easy instalments. However, the offer of free MBs is a feature that comes with all new smartphones that activate an MTN SIM card regardless of where you buy it.
