Ugandan software engineer, Stephen Tashobya who is also the maker of diagnostic delivery device, Wekebere has Thursday morning received an air ticket and accommodation package ahead of the Mobile World Congress slated to take place in Barcelona, Spain.
Tashobya whose innovation emerged the best young ICT Visionary Award winner at the ACIA awards 2016 will represent Uganda at a the four-day congress that will kick off on Monday February 27th.
While handing over the dummy air ticket to Tashobya at Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) headquarters in Bugolobi, Eng. Godfrey Mutabaazi, the UCC Executive Director congratulated the innovator, urging other youths to draw an example from him.
“Tashobya is an outstanding young man. As UCC, we shall facilitate him to the Mobile World Congress in Spain to go and showcase his invention but also learn and network with other innovators,” he said.
“I would like to encourage our young innovators in Uganda to emulate Tashobya and bring forth much more innovations,” he added.
The Mobile World Congress is the headline event on the GSM Association’s calendar.
In the past, the event hosted a strong line-up keynote speakers including Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg.
This year’s edition will feature a range of internationally-acclaimed speakers and industry leaders such as GSMA Chairman, Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, Sunil Bharti Mittal and Netflix Founder and CEO, Reed Hastings.
