atm fraudsterA suspected serial ATM card fraudster has been arrested in Arua while attempting to withdraw money a Centenary Bank ATM.

John Charles Obita, the suspect was rescued by the Police from an angry mob that almost lynched him.

Albert Clay Mulele, the bank branch manager, said the arrest followed a tip off by clients and concerned onlookers who descended on the suspect on seeing him with 10 ATM cards from different banks.

Eyewitnesses at the scene said a mob soon gathered and tried to overpower the security guards in an attempt to lynch the suspect.

“We arrested him with the help of our customers, security guards from the nearby institutions and members of the public on Main Street after he tried to run away with money drawn from the ATM fraudulently,” said Mulele.

Jonathan Musinguzi, the district Police commander, said the Police responded swiftly and took Obita to Arua Police Station. He said they are investigating the matter and Obita would be arraigned in court.

Mulele noted that there has been an increase in the number of goons who dupe and swap ATM cards of unsuspecting clients in Arua town.
