ICT Ministry Invite Applicants For The 4th National ICT Initiatives Support Programme

The Ministry of ICT calls ICT innovators and application developers across the country to apply for the 4th National ICT Initiatives Support Programme not later May 15th, 2021.

The Ministry of ICT and National Guidance calls ICT innovators and application developers across the country to apply for the 4th National ICT Initiatives Support Programme (NIISP). The Ministry has allocated resources to support innovators and developers through NIISP whose overall goal is to create a sustainable ecosystem for ICT Innovations in the country.

The Ministry invite applicants (CLICK LINK TO APPLY) to submit their applications under the key sectors: Accountability Sector, Public Sector Management, and ICT Sector not later than May 15th, 2021.

NIISP looks at tackling bottlenecks to creating a digital ecosystem by promoting the development and deployment of applications —creating an open ecosystem in Uganda that will enable the government, companies and individuals to innovate and reach new markets. Early this year in February, the Ministry rewarded 45 innovators a share of UGX7.39 billion grant to scale and commercialize their ideas.

Snice the program’s inception, the Ministry has spend UGX15.89 billion with 116 innovations benefitting from the program. Some of the innovations that have benefitted from the program include; Eco system, SANPAY, My Musawo, Skooldesk, FolloApp, eFikia, Jaguza, Elunda, Akello Banker, Akatale App, Mama Ope, M-Farmer, PRISMS, Wulira, KiCare, Ocular, 6th Sense, Xente, to mention a few.

ICT Ministry, Hon. Judith Nabakooba says the Government recognizes the potential of ICT to transform the economy and peoples’ lives through creating job opportunities, accelerate economic growth and significantly increase productivity as enshrined in the Uganda Vision 2040. Thus, being the reason of setting up the National ICT Initiatives Program to support and develop a holistic ICT Innovation Ecosystem.

Government’s investment in NIISP envisages at achieving, increased employment opportunities for the youth, increased ICT knowledge products in use locally and internationally, empower youth for increased participation in the ICT industry, and create a critical mass of skilled scientists & engineers to drive economic growth and transformation.
