The anticipated Jumia mobile week kicked off today and is schedule to end April 21st. To excite customers, the campaign kicks off with a treasure hunt of an iPhone 7 priced at UGX1, 000 (roughly USD$0.27).
During the launch of the campaign earlier this month, Jumia Uganda’s Chief Executive Mr. Ron Kawamara, said the Jumia mobile week is the Black Friday for mobiles. He called upon customers to purchase mobile phones taking advantage of the 60 per cent discounts. Jumia wants to play a role in bridging smartphone penetration in Africa.
The 2018 Mobile Report, shows the smartphone adoption in Africa is placed at a 36% penetration rate. This equates to about 255 million devices used which Jumia projects to reach 690 million by 2025.
During the mobile week, customers are in position to buy devices from various brands including; Tecno, iPhone, Samsung, Infinix, Nokia, Huawei, HTC, Redmi, among others.
Ron in a press statement, said the campaign is of major importance to Jumia because “being an online company we’ve taken on the mantle of pushing mobile penetration in Uganda.”
“e-Commerce is not for the future but for now and affordability of smartphones is one of the two main factors to improve the digital industry in Uganda with affordability of Internet being the second,” said Ron.
Some of the most anticipated deals include; the iPhone 7, Nokia 6.1, Infinix Zero 6 Pro, Galaxy J6, Tecno Camon 11 Pro, and so forth.
On top of the discount phones, Jumia has added flash sales, and treasure hunts.
