Xiaomi Unveils The Redmi Note 7, Highlights 48MP Camera & Waterdrop-Shaped Notch

Chinese-based electronics and software company Xiaomi Inc.—on Thursday officially launched its much-awaited debut smartphone of the Redmi Note 7 at an unveiling event held in China. The flagship biggest highlights is its 48-megapixel camera in its dual rear camera setup and the waterdrop-shaped notch.

However, despite the eye-catching highlight, the Redmi Note 7 turned out to be a product under the entry-level Redmi brand—priced at 999 yuan (roughly USD$148, UGX551,500) for the 3GB/32GB variant and 1,399 yuan (roughly USD$207, UGX772,300)for the 6GB/64GB variant.

The Redmi Note 7 is a ‘Redmi by Xiaomi’ sub-brand. The handset becomes the first smartphone to be launched after Xiaomi announced that Redmi would operate as an independent brand moving forward.

According to reports by The Verge, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced that Redmi will now be operated as an independent brand focusing on e-commerce and cost efficiency, leaving Xiaomi to concentrate on mid-to high-end phones and physical retail.

Meanwhile, looking at the specs and features of the Redmi Note 7—it brings a 6.3-inch full-HD+ LTPS display with a screen aspect ratio of 19.5:9, supported on a Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and 2.5D curved glass protection. It’s then powered by a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 660 octa-core SoC paired with Adreno 512 graphics, coupled with 3GB/6GB RAM and 32GB/64GB ROM options expand further using a microSD card slot up to 256GB.

The dual-SIM also runs on Android Oreo topped on with Redmi’s MIUI 9.

The Redmi Note 7 is backed on a 4,000mAh non-removable battery which supports quick charge.

Cameras
When it comes to imaging and video, the Redmi Note 7 comes with a dual rear camera setup at 48MP Samsung GM1 sensor and for the secondary sensor at 5MP. While the front facing camera 13MP selfie sensor coupled with features like AI smart beauty, AI single shot blur, HDR, background blur, among others.

Price and Availability
The Redmi Note 7 is priced at 999 yuan (roughly USD$148, UGX551,500) for the 3GB/32GB variant and 1,399 yuan (roughly USD$207, UGX772,300)for the 6GB/64GB variant. Goes on sale from Jan. 15th. Has been made available in Twilight Gold, Fantasy Blue, and Bright Black color options.

Notably, the flagship handset will be available in China first, then makes it way to Xiaomi’s other usual regions subsequently.
