Sudpay SA Wins Seedstar Dakar Pitch Competition, as Seedstar Team Heads to Nairobi & Kinshasa

SudPay SA a startup currently in its Expansion Stage emerged winner of Dakar (Senegal) seedstar pitch competition that was held at the Headquarter of SONATEL on September 7th, 2018. The startup joins the seedstar Africa list with; Rera Online Farm (Harare, Zimbabwe), Cowtribe Technology Ltd (Accra, Ghana), BeneFactors Ltd (Kigali, Rwanda), and Agro Supply Uganda Limited (Kampala, Uganda) that will be representing their respective countries at the global summit in Switzerland next year.

SudaPay SA for their Townpay solution allows municipalities to control their tax base and track the digital collection of various municipal taxes. The team looked at the problem where municipalities finance their budgets by collecting local taxes with an extremely high fraud rate of more than 40%.

Emerging winners in the country, SudaPay SA pitched alongside; LIVES (came in the 2nd position), Paps (came in the 3rd position), mTick, OniriQ, Loyset, Musik Bi, weebi, and Sunubus.

The 10 teams pitched in front of selected jury consisting of; Diallo Mohamed;
CEO at Byfilling, Laissa Mouen; Founder & Managing Partner at Kinaya Lab, Mamadou Marème Diop; CEO at Jumia Travel – Senegal, Ndeye Thiaw; Managing Partner at Brightmore Capital, Rokhaya Solange; Responsable Relations at Orange Senegal, and Fanny Dauchez; Business Development Francophone Africa at Seedstars World.

The Seedstar team will on 21st Friday, September 2018 be in Nairobi and Kinshasa to select the promising startup that will represent Kenya and Democratic Republic of the Congo (D.R.C) respectively, at the global summit next year.

Nairobi Pitch Event
The Nairobi startups that have been selected for the pitch event include; paybobby, Bluewave Insurance Agency Limited, Angaza Elimu, Gravity.earth, Optimetriks, PataGrao Ltd., Lily Health, and bitshamba.

The 8 teams will pitch in front of Samuel Gikandi; Co-founder & CEO at Africa’s Talking Ltd, Maryam Mgonja; Associate for East Africa at Seedstar World, Teresa Mbagaya; Investment Principal at Omidyar Network, and Munyutu Waigi; Co-Founder at Umati Capital (Kenya) Limited.[related-posts]

Kinshasa Pitch Event
11 startups were selected for the Kinshasa pitch event. EBUTELO, AfriNTIC SARL, WapiMED sarl, STATS CONGO, Labes Key – schoolap, SMS Emploi, EHE ( eye of the environment and health ), Faysal Company, Integrity Media RDC, Alternative Energy Technologies Group, and InjoByte.

The selected jury for the pitch event includes; Fanny Dauchez; Business Development Francophone Africa at Seedstars World, Bob David Nzoimbengene; Managing Partner at Deloitte, Jean Paul Odent; Head of Commercial Banking at Rawbank S.A, and Henri Plessers; Country Representative, DRC at fsdafrica.

For those that are unaware, Seedstars World is a Switzerland based startup competition that takes place in emerging markets. The competition runs over 65 local competitions where they identify the best seed-stage startups, give them pitch training and award the winners with an opportunity to compete in the Seedstars Summit with over 70 other startups selected globally, where one is crowned Seedstars World Global Winner.
