Four Ugandan film makers; Aaron Tamale, Casey Lugada, Hilda Awori, and Cissy Nalumansi were part of the 20 finalists from East Africa that will be part of the MultiChoice’s Pan-African social investment initiative dubbed the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) that is aimed at igniting and growing Africa’s creative industries into vibrant, economic centers.

In total, 60 finalists were selected across the Continent. After a call of application in June, they were chosen after a two-months long process of shortlisting applicants from over 3,000 submitted entries from 13 countries. This was then followed by a rigorous interview and adjudication process by a group of film and television industry experts and regional Academy Directors – where only 60 were chosen as finalists for the program.

The four being the lucky finalists from Uganda, will represent the country at the Kenya-based MTF Academy from 1st, October 2018. MultiChoice Africa is sponsoring all the finalists’ tuition, accommodation and stipend for the duration of their training in each regional hub i.e. Kenya for East Africa, Nigeria for Western Africa, and Zambia for Southern African countries.

Emerged finalists will be provided with skill-sets to develop their talent, connect with industry professionals and tell authentic African stories through a comprehensive curriculum comprising theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in cinematography, editing, audio production and storytelling.

During the programme, they will produce television and film content that will be aired on M-Net channels across the MultiChoice platform including Africa Magic, Maisha Magic East, Maisha Magic Bongo, Zambezi Magic, M-Net and SuperSport to reach African audiences on the DStv and GOtv platforms.

Upon graduation from the MultiChoice Talent Factory Academy, the MTF students will leave with the knowledge and skills to contribute professionally to Africa’s film and television industry.
