In a bid to further drive financial inclusion, MTN Mobile Money Limited Uganda has partnered with ClinicPesa to extend healthcare financial services to more Ugandans conveniently through the robust, accessible, and widely used MTN MoMo platform. The service was launched onto the MTN MoMo platform at the MTN Headquarters in Kampala on Nov. 29, 2022.

ClinicPesa is a healthcare financing solution that empowers individuals to save, borrow and pay for healthcare or to purchase drugs/medicine in their time of need at any partnering healthcare facility. They have a number of services for instance the maternal health service called ClinicPesa MaMa’s, a behaviorally driven mobile money maternal health savings account platform that empowers expectant women and couples to access timely savings towards maternity care, purchase of birth preparedness kits (MaMa Kits), upkeep, as well as transportation to the healthcare center, hence empowering them to afford safe child delivery.
Speaking at the launch of the partnership at the MTN Headquarters in Kampala on Nov. 29 on behalf of the Deputy Governor Bank of Uganda, Mr. Richard Byarugaba, Bank of Uganda Head of Finance lauded MTN Mobile Money Limited Uganda and ClinicPesa for having this partnership stating that “this product shall therefore not only promote healthcare but also promote savings among more people in Uganda” — considering that 17% of the people are saving money on their mobile phones as opposed to the 15% that are saving with financial institutions.
Financial Sector Deepening’s Director of Programs, Mr. Joseph Lutwama lauded ClinicPesa for innovating products that eliminate financial bottlenecks for low-income earners.
“We have walked with ClincPesa on this journey for 4 years and are happy to see that they are partnering with MTN Mobile Money Limited Uganda to take this service to many more people who need it,” said Lutwama. “We shall continue supporting innovators like ClinicPesa to provide a better life to the people in the communities in which we live.”
ClinicPesa CEO Eng. Chrispinus Onyancha thanked MTN Mobile Money Limited Uganda for accepting to work with ClinicPesa.
“I am grateful for the new innovations that MTN puts in place to make their customers’ lives simpler. I urge their customers to set up their ClinicPesa accounts and start saving for their healthcare,” Onyancha said.

With over 16 million customers on the MTN network, the partnership will extend healthcare financial services to more people who have not been able to access such services.
