Yesterday, Rome-based ANSA news reported that Pope Francis will indeed officially open an instagram account on March 19th, 2016 under the handle “Franciscus” in a statement to Vatican radio by the Prefect for Communications, Msgr Dario Viganò.
The announcement followed a private visit by Instagram founder and CEO Kevin Systrom to the Pope, according to TIME Magazine, during which Kevin shared with him powerful images and their ability to break social boundaries and bring people together. At the meeting which took place at the Apostolic Palace, the two looked over images including those from the exodus of migrants and refugees from the Middle East into Europe and some from the Nepalese earthquake .
