MTN has named its former South African chief marketing officer, Mr Brian Gouldie, as the new CEO of its operation in Uganda.

Ugandan CEO Mr Mazen Mroue has been named as the new chief operating officer of MTN Irancell, MTN’s affiliate in Iran, bringing an to his two year tenure since his appointment in June 2012.

Meanwhile Mr Ferdi Moolman, has named the current chief operations officer at Irancell as the new chief financial officer at MTN Nigeria, the group’s largest subsidiary by subscriber numbers.

“We are delighted that we are able to fill these executive management positions from within our leadership ranks, in line with our leadership development strategy,” said group CEO Sifiso Dabengwa.

Gouldie has been the head of MTN’s marketing team- “responsible for redefining” the company’s “competitive position”- in South Africa for the last 10 months before his new appointment in Uganda.

“He has launched prepaid and post-paid converged products, with the most recent being the 79c voice and data offerings,” MTN says in a statement. “These have been instrumental in reaffirming customer affinity in the South African market.”

Gouldie also spearheaded MTN Mobile Money. He helped repositioning MTN South Africa and implemented “multiple strategic initiatives which have bolstered MTN’s role as a strong competitor”, says MTN South Africa CEO Zunaid Bulbulia.

Gouldie will be replaced in the marketing role in South Africa by Larry Annetts, who currently heads marketing in Nigeria, where he established MTN as the largest distributor of music.
