Makerere University’s College of Computing and Information Science, in collaboration with Huawei Technologies (Uganda) Company Limited, have successfully concluded a high-impact engagement session that drew significant enthusiasm from talented students across technology and engineering disciplines, serving as a platform to introduce participants to the Huawei ICT Competition’s potential to shape their professional futures.

A team of certified experts and instructors from Huawei delivered a comprehensive presentation detailing the structure, themes, competition rules, and benefits of the global competition when participating in any of the four tracks: Cloud, Computing, Network, and Innovation.

The engagement proceeded with the official launch of the roadshow for the prestigious Huawei ICT Competition 2025/2026. The roadshow essentially aims to maximize outreach and talent identification in different institutions of higher learning across the country ―providing a direct, interactive platform to effectively communicate the competition’s structure, significant benefits such as fully sponsored training, globally recognized certifications, success stories, internships, and job opportunities, and the latest in the respective tracks.

The Huawei ICT Competition aligns directly with Uganda’s push to bridge the digital skills gap between academic theory and industry demands, offering certification for career advancement and unique networking opportunities at an international level. This grants participants the necessary exposure to address day-to-day challenges.

Sunday Emmanuel, the Chairperson of Makerere University Technology Society, called upon the students to actively participate in the registration and enroll in the competition to acquire essential and marketable skills that make them more competitive in the job market.

The registered students will now proceed with free online learning and training to practice under the guidance of the Huawei ICT Academy Instructors provided by Huawei. The preliminary stages of the competition focus on rigorous theoretical knowledge and technical skills, paving the way for the top performers to advance to the national stage and potentially represent Uganda at the regional competitions and global finals in China.

Huawei underscores its commitment to nurturing local talent, which is an investment in the next generation of African digital leaders. Over the years they have worked with different universities to consistently produce exceptional talent eager to leverage Huawei’s technologies to innovate for a better Uganda, leaving no one behind.
