MTN Uganda Launch ‘Kibanda Xpress’ To Boost The Film Industry

MTN Uganda have today launched a Video on Demand (VOD) channel dubbed, Kibanda Xpress dedicated to show Ugandan Films. The channel is hosted on the YoTV Channel app provided by Albayan Media Limited, and all the films that will be showed on the channel will be created by the Association of Core Film Producers Uganda Limited (trading as PearlWood).

At the time of publishing this article, Kibanda Xpress now features over 150+ Ugandan movies. The channel on the other hand will live stream premiers of new movies providing customers with entertainment conveniently and affordably anywhere and everywhere via the YoTV Channel mobile application.

MTN Uganda Chief Marketing Officer Sen Somdev while speaking to the press at Hotel Africana, said that through Kibanda Xpress, they hope to boost the Uganda film industry so that the industry realizes its potential.

Adding to Somdev’s remarks, Mzee Bwanika, Speaker of PearlWood Board of Directors, said, “Our dream as local film content creators is to build a sustainable industry in which content creators not only earn consistently from their content, but one in which they also thrive and gain the global visibility deserved.”

Bwanika adds that, “Without doubt, going digital is the right move for the film industry as it will reduce on the copyrights infringement, increase footprint of the Uganda movies and expose our artists globally among others.”

On side of YoTV the app hosting the channel, Mr. Aggrey Mugisha, the YoTV Channels CEO, said, “Pearlwood is a great example that our local movie industry can be global, and that Uganda is a great entertainment market for the rest of the world.”

While launching the new channel, MTN also announced a promotion subscription offer where users will be able to pay UGX1,000 to watch a movie. The subscription is valid for a period of 24 hours.

To watch a movie on Kibanda Express, follow these steps:

  • Download and install the Yotv app from Playstore and Appstore in case you don’t have the app.
  • Subscribe and Login to the app >>  and Select VOD.
  • Browse and select the movie of your choice then follow prompts to complete payment. Note that payments are made via mobile money.
