MTN Uganda has today revealed that it will awards its winners of the recent ended MTN API App Challenge. MTN made an announcement an email that was seen by PC Tech Magazine.
To recall, MTN together with The Innovation Village shortlisted 23 finalists who pitched to a panel of judges where the 9 winning startups were selected.
MTN had called for applications in three categories; Transport, HORECA, and Fast Moving Consumer Goods. Three winners were selected in each category — where the overall winner gets a cash prize (will be revealed today). In addition, stand eligible to compete for seed capital from the UGX1 billion MTN Innovation Fund.
The three overall winners; Easy Matatu, Minute Five, and App About emerged from Transport, Fast Consumer Goods, and HORECA categories respectively.
Easy Matatu developed an app that enables carpooling using matatu’s. Minute Five developed an online shopping platform to make grocery shopping easy for those who cannot move to the market. And, App About developed an app that enables Hotel/Restaurant/Cafe owners to make pre-sales for events.
The runners up were; Endobo and Your Waste for Transport. Poweli Pay and Engineering Connections for Fast Consumer Goods. Finally Epay, and Sowani for HORECA.
The developers will be given the Mobile Money API to integrate in their solutions.
The MTN API App Challenge was launched last year.
