State Minister of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) to Uganda; Ms. Idah Nantaba on Sunday survived an attempted assassination — after unidentified gunmen traveling on a motorbike attempted to kill her.
The incident happened around Naggalama, as it was reported that Ms. Idah was traveling back to Kampala from Kayunga.
The first reports were dismissed claiming that the Minister was shot at. According to reports by Daily Monitor Ms. Idah Nantaba contacted the Naggalama police after she noticed she was trailed on a motorbike by unidentified men.
Police later deployed patrols in all routes around Nagalama. All got messy when the gunmen noticed the police patrol car that they opened fire. In defence, the police shot back, killing one — while the other gunman abandon the motorbike running off on foot.
“The Minister was suspicious of the men on the motorbike before she called the Nagalama Police station which alerted other stations. The Police then started patrolling and monitoring the surroundings before they encountered gunmen who opened fire which prompted the Police to fire back before killing one of the gunmen on spot,” Kampala Metropolitan deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigire told NTV.
Police is yet to release an official statement on the incident.
