FinTech Startup ‘Nala’ Wins Dar es Salaam Seedstar Pitch Competition

Nala a Fintech startup from Tanzania on Monday won the seedstar pitch competition Dar es Salaam, making it the 17th and last startup to join the 16 startups from other African countries. Winning the pitch competition, Nala will take part in the on-going regional summit and global seedstar competition scheduled for April 2019.

Nala who previous won the second annual Ecobank Fintech Challenge – designed a mobile money application that works offline, allowing users to easily access multiple mobile money wallets faster―starting in Tanzania.

Among the other startups that pitched alongside Nala include; Asante Mama, Makaru Agro LTD, WomenChoice Industries, Foodsasa, Sourcenets LTD, NinayoCom LTD, Toolboksi, Fursa 101 Africa LTD, FixChap, and JointPesa Holdings.

Startups pitched came from sectors in AgricTech, Fintech, Food & Beverages, EdTech, HighTech, and Consumer Products.

Notably, seedstar is hosting its entrepreneurship forum for emerging markets from December 11th to 13th in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, at Seedspace Dar es Salaam and Kisenga LAFP International Conference Center. The 17 startups are participating in a growth bootcamp where they’re to learn more about growth strategy and how to pitch. In addition the startups will also pitch to potential backers at an investor forum.

Claudia Makadristo, Regional Manager for Africa at Seedstars in a statement said they’re excited to bring the entire network together in Dar es Salaam, to dive into the different ways technology and entrepreneurship can rapidly impact and improve people’s lives by tackling local social challenges directly.
