Liquid Telecom launches Rwanda’s first FTTH network

Liquid Telecom Rwanda has launched fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services in the capital, Kigali, offering what it claims is the country’s fastest internet.

They are offering download speeds of up to 100Mbps, and the operator is investing more than USD35 million in Rwanda’s first FTTH network.

The firm has already connected ‘all businesses in central Kigali’ and are planing to continue to build the network in Kigali before expanding to other cities across Rwanda, with 15,000 homes and businesses expected to be passed by the FTTH network by the end of 2016.

The service will be available to consumers directly from Liquid Telecom, as well as from a number of MNOs and ISPs via wholesale access.

Currebtly, Liquid Telecom’s FTTH deployments are also taking place in Kenya, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe, with more than 100km of new fibre laid every week.
