Here’s how to Back Up WhatsApp Messages to Google Drive

WhatsApp is incredibly popular, and when it quietly adds features like this, it’s no wonder why. This awesome messaging service, which we absolutely love, just announced that you can now back up all of your messages to Google Drive.

The problem is, it’s not available to everyone just yet.

If you have the functionality already, you can head over to Settings > Chats and calls and see if there is a Chat backup option. The update is a staggered one, meaning not all users are going to get it at the same time. If you’re feeling slighted, don’t worry, there is another way.

If you go to the WhatsApp website with your mobile device, you can download the official APK file and install it yourself. First, uninstall the old version of WhatsApp from your device, then execute the new version (which should end up in you Downloads folder).[related-posts]

Note: After installing, some users noted a prompt claiming that a WhatsApp update was available from the Play Store. Don’t download this as it will actually be the older version. If you update, you’ll just be reverting and you’ll lose the new feature.

If your Android device won’t allow you to install the APK, you just need to allow the installation of third-party apps. Do so by going to Settings > Security, and then click Enable in the Unknown sources section.
