According to the report, the number of on Net calls declined to 4.63 billion in the quarter under review compared to 4,76 billion during the preceding period.

Official data from TCRA states that the number of SMS’s sent via mobile phones more than doubled to 1.23 billion in the quarter ending March 2012, compared to 598.74 million between October and December 2011.

The Daily News states that the volume of calls from one network to another dropped by 3.31% to 232.12 million in the quarter under review – compared to 240.07 million of the previous period.

The Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Dr William Mgimwa, is quoted as saying that the government has increased taxes on mobile phones by 2% to 12% – and this is expected to impact on the cost of both on-and off Net calls.
