MTN Uganda Partners With StarTimes TV For Convenient Payments

MTN Head of Public Access and Mobile Money, Richard Mwami said MTN Mobile money continued to entrench itself in the person-to-business arena, offering customers a growing bouquet of convenient payment options for a wide range of services such as utility payments, school fees, groceries, and pay TV.

“Star times TV has joined the growing list of partners using the MTN Mobile money platform to bring unprecedented convenience to it’s over 65,000 customers across its current footprint that extends to the areas of Kampala, Entebbe, Wakiso, Kayunga, Luweero, Nakasongola, Mityana, Mpigi, Lugazi, Mukono Jinja and Masaka,” he said.

Mwami said with over US$ 90million in monthly transactions, the service holds a record adaption rate for any non-tariff telecommunications product in Uganda.

“With close to two million registered users, and more than 1,500 agents across Uganda, to say the services have been successful would be an understatement. Today, we witness history as the convenience of MTN Mobile Money extends further into the Person to Business Payment arena,” Mwami said

In the last 18 months, Star times market share has been growing steadily and the Pay TV Company now boast of more than 65,000 subscribers on a digital platform, with products ranging from Video gateway, LCDs, CRTs with the latest innovation being mobile TV Service, the first of its kind in Uganda.

“This clearly defines our position in the Pay TV sector in Uganda and we are working tirelessly to maintain this. This has been a result of our commitment and dedication to offer affordable content to every home in Uganda,” said Simon Arineitwe, Sales manager at Star Times.

“Today we have witnessed yet another partnership with MTN Uganda and we are proud to be associated with the most competitive brand on the market. We strongly believe that with the already established MTN network countrywide our clients will definitely get value for their money. This initiative will also help the Ugandan Government to realize its full digital migration by the year 2012,” Arineitwe added.

Arineitwe said the partnership with MTN Mobile Money was timely, as Star times had just concluded another partnership with Pride Micro-Finance through mortgage and asset financing facility, enabling interested clients to purchase products through small monthly installments.

The service is available to all MTN Mobile Money registered customers.
