The region, known for its low educational attainment and limited access to ICT resources, stands on the brink of a digital revolution with this generous contribution from MTN Uganda through its philanthropic arm, MTN Foundation.

The Chief Community Officer for MTN Uganda in the Karamoja region and proprietor of Tiffan Enterprises Dr. Charles Nuwagaba said the company’s support of the Akica Karamoja project aligns perfectly with its Ambition 2025 strategy. The strategy among other things emphasizes the importance of digital inclusion and the empowerment of youth through education.

“We at MTN believe everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life irrespective of social or economic background,” said Nuwagaba. “We are therefore thrilled to partner with Tocau Karamoja to make this vision a reality.”

Sylvia Ichumar Lorot the Tocau Karamoja Founder, applauded MTN Uganda for the support saying it will significantly improve educational outcomes, enhance employability skills, and foster a culture of continuous learning among the youth in Karamoja, including girls and those with disabilities.

“This refurbished youth center is now more than just a facility; it is now a beacon of hope, opening doors to opportunities that were once out of reach for many young people in Karamoja,” explained Lorot. “Thank you so much MTN Uganda,” she ends.

This support comes as historical data paints a stark picture of educational attainment in Nabilatuk, with the district grappling with some of the lowest performance indicators countrywide. This, coupled with limited access to ICT and library services, has significantly hampered the educational and economic prospects of the youth in the region.
