Seedstars World, the biggest startup competition focused only in emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes, in May this year announced its global tour search up dates for its 5th Annual Seedstars summit – with the African tour that begun from Maputo (Mozambique) on 15th June and is scheduled to end on 2nd November in Gaborone (Botswana). 18 African cities (Kampala inclusive) were chosen to participate in the competition with Kampala search scheduled for 24th August, 2018.
In partnership with tech and incubation hub, Outbox, call of application were submitted in to later than 10th August, 2018. From hundred’s of submmission, a panel of selected jury have selected only 10 of Uganda’s best seedstage startups that will compete at a pitch event that will be held at Outbox Hub on 24th August, 2018 where only one will emerge winner, to represent Uganda at the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland next year to stand a chance of winning up to USD$1 million in equity investment as well as crowned Seedstar Global Winner.
From the selected startups include; 2ambale Limited, Agro Supply Uganda Limited, Bringo Fresh Deliveries Ltd, CoinPesa Ltd, Digi Health Limited, Mallan Co. Limited, Medical Street International Co. Ltd, OlyCash, Quest Digital Finance, and Digital Health Access.
The startups will on Friday pitch in front of a jury of; CK Japhet; Team Leader at Innovation Village, Otim Gerald; Founder and Lead of Ensibuuko, Takuma Terakubo Founder and CEO of Leapfrog Ventures, and Maryam Mgonja; Associate for East Africa at Seedstars.
Uganda was last year represented by a Digital loans startup; Numida – an innovation that issues unsecured loans to credit-constrained Ugandan entrepreneurs, who use the Numida app to manage their finances and charges a base rate of between five and 15% on terms of between one and three months, with loan amounts going as high as USD$1,500. Users can access credit after only seven days of app use, but the longer and more often they use Numida the higher loan principals and better terms they are offered.
