Before Ultra HD 4K becomes normal, Japan’s NHK has kicked off 4K and 8K broadcast tests.
The super high res broadcasts are sent via satellite.
The downside is that there’s no way to watch the super high res feeds , though interested Japanese residents can check out tests of the feeds at several public locations in Tokyo and Osaka.
At the moment, NHK is using the Rio Olympics as a testbed for the technology that it hopes to roll out first in 2018, and have ready for the public time for the 2020 Olympics in Japan.
Viewers can see pre-taped clips including 8K test footage from the 2012 Olympics, and even a live broadcast of Rio’s Opening Ceremony.
If you are excited about the 8K stream, get yourself the TV set.(NB:It doesn’t come cheap)
