Residents in Nakuru County to get free Wi-Fi

free-wi-fiNakuru County Government has partnered with the State House Digital Team  the  to provide free Wi-Fi to residents for the next one month.

This comes after Jubilee pledged to connect five towns to free WiFi.

State House Digital Director Dennis Itumbi who spoke at the launch in Nakuru on Wednesday said the Sh200 million project is a partnership with Infonet Africa.

The State House Digital Team also pledged to design and deliver a website and Android App in the near future to keeping with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s pledge of a digital government.

“We are committed to ensure Kenyans, particularly the youth are connected,” Itumbi said.

The Governor of Nakuru  Kinuthia Mbugua said the county would use the resources to connect farmers to the Internet and improve research in institutions of higher learning.

“We are ready to ensure that our people benefit from connectivity, we are certain we will transform the democratic space and open up opportunities,” the Governor said, at the launch also attended by top government officials.

The State House Digital Team is credited for championing the use of new media for official government communication since its formation last year.
