Entebbe City is set to become the latest beneficiary of the transformative MTN ACE Digital Skilling Program, following its remarkable success in training over 1,000 vendors across various markets in Kampala.

In a meeting held today, Entebbe City Mayor His Worship Fabrice Rulinda welcomed representatives from Centenary Technology Services and the National ICT Innovation Hub to discuss the program’s implementation. The delegation was led by Steven Kirenga, General Manager of Product & Business Development and Customer Experience at Centenary Technology Services, and Lailah Nalukwago, Project Management Specialist at the National ICT Innovation Hub.

The digital skilling program will target three key community groups: market vendors, fisher communities, and boda-boda operators, recognizing the vital role these sectors play in Entebbe’s economic ecosystem.

“We are thrilled to bring this life-changing opportunity to Entebbe City,” said Mayor Fabrice Rulinda. “Digital skills are no longer a luxury but a necessity in today’s world. This program will empower our market vendors, fishermen, and boda-boda riders to leverage technology for better business outcomes and improved livelihoods.”

Steven Kirenga emphasized the program’s commitment to practical, relevant training. “Our experience in Kampala has shown us the incredible potential that exists within our communities. We’re excited to replicate this success in Entebbe, ensuring that digital transformation reaches every corner of our society. The skills our participants will gain will directly translate into increased income opportunities and business growth.”

The comprehensive curriculum covers essential digital competencies tailored for modern business needs. Participants will receive hands-on training in digital marketing, learning how to promote their businesses through social media platforms, create compelling online content, and reach new customers beyond their traditional markets. The program also emphasizes cybersecurity and digital hygiene, ensuring participants can safely navigate the online world while protecting their personal information and business data.

Smartphone proficiency forms another cornerstone of the training, with participants mastering everything from basic navigation to advanced applications that can streamline their daily operations. The curriculum further includes digital financial literacy, teaching participants how to use mobile money services, online banking, and digital payment platforms safely and effectively.

Participants will also learn about e-commerce fundamentals, enabling them to explore online selling opportunities and expand their customer base beyond geographical limitations. The training emphasizes practical, immediately applicable skills that can boost income and improve business efficiency for small-scale entrepreneurs.

A standout feature of the program is the recognition participants will receive upon completion. All graduates will be awarded certificates from global technology leaders HP and Cisco, providing them with internationally recognized credentials that validate their newly acquired digital competencies.

On June 30th, 2025, the two-month training program will start at Entebbe’s Central Market, strategically chosen as the first venue to maximize accessibility for the target communities. The location underscores the program’s commitment to meeting participants where they are, removing barriers to digital education.

The success story from Kampala serves as a beacon of hope for what’s possible in Entebbe. The 1,000 vendors who completed the program in the capital city have reported significant improvements in their business operations, from digital payment adoption to online marketing capabilities.
