Safeboda has today launched two new services on its platform dubbed Plus Boda Boda designed to provide customers with a greater choice of affordable, high-quality transportation options, while also empowering SafeBoda’s driver community with better earning opportunities. Simultaneously, the ride-hailing company also added a Saver a feature that offers an affordable option, enabling customers to enjoy SafeBoda’s service at a lower price point.
“We are thrilled to be launching our Plus and Saver ride options on the SafeBoda app,” said Ricky Rap Thomson, Co-Founder and Director of SafeBoda, at the launch event held at the company’s offices in Kyebando — adding that “These new services are an important step towards fulfilling our mission to make transportation safer and more affordable for everyone in Africa just by a click of a button.”
Now Safeboda users/customers can choose to ride Plus or Saver. The Plus option will offer them [customers] an elevated experience with added benefits including insurance cover provided by Liberty General Insurance Limited, clean helmets & hair nets, and top experiences riders [that have gone under re-training] that are well advanced in navigating the GPS, among other benefits. While on the other hand, the Save option which is the more cost friendly doesn’t come with insurance or re-trained riders — but despite the difference in the naming, both options still offer good quality service deriving straight from SafeBoda’s core values.
Mr. Raphael Bisaso, Head of Sales, Marketing, and Distribution at Liberty General Insurance remarked that the insurance company is delighted to partner with SafeBoda to help them take the next step in protecting passengers. Whilst showing his excitement to launch the new services with one of the “most innovative companies in Uganda,” he said — who have already made taking a boda boda safer in Kampala.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, SCP Stephen Tanui the Chief Guest at the launch appreciated SafeBoda’s commitment to ensuring the safety of its riders and customers while on the road and the great steps that have been taken to make sure that drivers comply with all regulations of traffic and road usage.
“As the Kampala Metropolitan Police, we take the safety and security of our community as the greatest pillar, and that is the reason why we are here,” said Tanui. “If companies like SafeBoda are working to achieve this, then as police, they shall work closely with them.”
Tanui appealed to the SafeBoda founders and executives to scale up their services to other parts of Uganda in the bid to improve the transport sector, especially in training and instilling discipline in the Boda boda riders.
When we asked SafeBoda about their plan to scale up their services to other parts of Uganda as asked by Mr. Tanui, the company on the sidelines of the launch event told PC Tech Magazine, “SafeBoda’s current focus is to scale its products and services across the Kampala Metropolitan area to the levels of pre-COVID, the landscape has changed given the restrictions that came about at the time.” Adding “The company is working closely with the government and, with favorable conditions in place, expansion to other parts of the country is possible in the future.”
A few of SafeBoda riders showed support for the new service and applauded their company for their continuous effort in improving both the riders and customers’ experiences.
Nkalubo Ronald, SB 5115 representing the driver community said, “We are excited about the launch of this new service especially for us the drivers.” “I encourage customers to use SafeBoda more, whether on Plus or Saver trips. We are ready to serve you better.”
Josephat Nalumenya, SB 10752, appreciated that SafeBoda gives the drivers value not only in branding but with earnings. He believes the new options will give customers better service delivery on both Saver and Plus.
Steven Mubiru, another rider is grateful to the company for the new innovation stating that it is a value addition to the Premium drivers. To him, the Saver option is a good innovation, especially for students that use SafeBoda to school and back.
The new features are available as new updates in the SafeBoda app.
