Tecno Spark 10 Pro: Inside The Box and Quick Review

The Tecno Spark 10 Pro is impressive at first glance — it has an iPhone look, at least from the back.

The Tecno Spark 10 series debuted early last month, and where made available to the Ugandan market on March 15th coming in three variants the Tecno Spark 10, Tecno Spark 10 C, and Tecno Spark 10 Pro. However, the series has a fourth variant the Tecno Spark 10 5G, but not available for the Ugandan market.

Tecno Mobile is a well-known smartphone brand that has been delivering quality devices —the Tecno Spark 10 is no exception, and it offers a range of features that make it stand out in the mid-range smartphone market. A high-performance selfie phone targeting mostly Gen Zs and first-time smartphone owners.

The Tecno Spark 10 is the newest member in the Spark series succeeding the Spark 9 Series that was announced in June 2022 and made available in July of the same year. If you ask, can I upgrade or not, well, you probably can —and through the company’s Swamp My Tecno program, you can swamp in your phone for the new Spark 10.

Tecno sent us the Tecno Spark 10 Pro for a hands-on and outside-the-box, the phone is impressive at first glance — it has an iPhone look, at least from the back — which we should add it’s made out of glass and has a matte finish which gives the phone a more premium feel for a mid-range smartphone.

The Tecno Spark 10 Pro comes in two color options; Starry Black and Pearl White, but it is only available in Starry Black in the Ugandan market and I have to say, the black is a better color option for a phone compared to the white.

The package is the same for all its devices, it is a relatively small box in white and orange. Tecno advises when buying to make sure the seal isn’t broken to avoid receiving a duped product. Inside the box, on top sits the phone that weighs about 208g (less than a kg), and underneath it comes a transparent silicone phone case, an 18-watt fast charging charger, a USB Type-C 2.0 charging & data cable, and a standard pair of 3.5mm headsets. The screen protector comes pre-installed on the phone something we believe the company is going to be doing way forward.

Quick Review
The Tecno Spark 10 Pro has a thick solid body (sturdy frame) built with a glass front, plastic frames, and a glass back. It has a 6.8-Inch FullHD + 90Hz LCD display with a peak brightness of 580 nits and a punch hole in the center for the 32MP selfie camera. The design is pretty much the same, a sim card and microSD card tray on the left side, a 3.5mm headset port, a USB TypeC port, and a single speaker grill on the bottom, and finally the power (which is also a fingerprint reader) and volume buttons on the right.

The phone doesn’t feel heavy for its size but if you have small hands it will require using two hands — but if you have big hands it fits perfectly in the grip.

The back panel of the phone is reminiscent of some iPhones. It is made out of glass and has a matte finish which gives the phone a more premium feel for a mid-range smartphone. You have a glossy finish squircle camera island with a more pronounced opalescent look on the top left. The island has three circular modules — an AI 50MP camera (the second is an unspecified camera), a dual LED flash, and a depth sensor just above the flash. At the back, you also have Tecno Spark branding which is eye-catching and has a rough (not in a bay way) feel.

The front has not much going on — the thin bezel on the sides gives more room for display but a thicker bezel at the bottom bezel is quite noticeable. The display has a centered punch-hole selfie camera that’s an upgrade from the Spark 9 Pro. Typical to Tecno smartphones is the LED flash tucked into the top bezel. With three illumination levels and a 32MP sensor, this promises some impressive nighttime selfies.

Both cameras are capped at 1080p at 30fps video recording.

The phone is powered by the MediaTek Helio G88 chipset — a 12nm chip with two Cortex-A75 cores (2.0GHz) and six A55 cores, plus a Mali-G52 MC2. A relevant upgrade over the previous G85 chip is that this one can run FHD+ displays at 90Hz and the Spark 10 Pro makes use of that.

The phone runs Android 13-based HiOS 12.6. It comes with 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB memory options. We received the 8GB/256GB variant. It is worth knowing that the RAM can be extended to 16GB using virtual RAM, thanks to its Memory Fusion Technology.

The phone is powered by a non-removable 5,000mAh battery with 18W charging support.

First Impressions;

  1. Huge display.
  2. Huge battery.
  3. Better display.
  4. Good build and design.

Overall, I think the Tecno Spark 10 is worth considering if you are looking for a mid-range smartphone that can handle your daily tasks and selfies with ease. However, if you are looking for more premium features or better gaming performance, you may want to look elsewhere.
