Ugandans who are utilizing the power of technology to positively impact their communities over the years deserve to be honored for their great work and efforts. It is in recognition of this need that today, Airtel Uganda launched a new campaign dubbed, “Uganda Needs More of You” that seeks to showcase, celebrate and recognize Ugandans using technology to positively impact their communities.

While launching the campaign at the Kampala Serena Hotel, Airtel Uganda Managing Director, Mr. Manoj Murali said the transformative power of technology supported by 4G internet is routinely displayed by the growth in digital-based services and the number of people included in the ecosystem. “We’re driving digital and financial inclusion in two pillars which affect the lives of millions of Uganda’s digital penetration and financial inclusion,” he emphasizes.

The telco unveiled the Airtel Mobiste http://www.airtel.co.ug/UgneedsmoreofU (Uganda Needs More of You) where participants will have to share/submit their stories of how they have[are] utilized [utilizing] technology to positively impact their communities. The submitted stories will be judged by a select panel of judges [to our knowledge includes Maggie Kigozi and Maurice Mugish] and voted on by the public through the Airtel Mobsite or via SMS.

The campaign stories will be broadcasted on select media houses. On a monthly basis, the stories submitted will be vetted and the top 3 will be selected to proceed to the next stage. The final transformative stories will receive support for their causes.

So far three stories pioneering the campaign were cited and are benefiting from the campaign. Murali said the stories demonstrate the entrepreneurial spirit of Ugandans that gets sparked by challenges and opportunities. “These stories will inspire more Ugandans to aspire for more.”

The three stories include;

  1. The story of Mr. Dickson Mushabe, who founded the Dolphin Fund, a unique crowdfunding website through which Ugandans are raising funds to support Nobel causes within their communities.
  2. The story of Dr. Davis Musinguzi who founded Rocket Health which unlocked the power of telemedicine to save lives in many places.
  3. The story of Ms. Catherine Nakatudde who founded Ella Clear Foods, to ensure that the meals of workers in Kampala City are delivered to them. She founded the platform during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020.

Murali said these stories are of the hard work and resilience of millions of Ugandans with whom Airtel shares its growth story. He noted that more inspiring stories are yet to be discovered, told, and celebrated. “I am confident that ‘Uganda Needs More of You’ Campaign will help us discover and celebrate more of these Ugandan stories.”

These stories, among others, represent the power of the many changemakers in Uganda who are leveraging the power of technology to transform their communities. Airtel Uganda is therefore pleased to support this movement of change-makers in their causes and scale up their impact and awareness in Uganda and across borders.

Murali says the telco remains committed to enabling all Ugandans to connect, innovate and do business with their 4G coverage network, without differentiation across Uganda.
