Barely four months after launching Camon 15, Tecno Mobile announced, the Tecno Camon 16 Premier to succeed the Camon 15 Premier. On Oct. 14th, the smartphone manufacturer collaborated with telecom operator, MTN Uganda to unveil the phone, in its series. The collaboration Tecno customers receive 3GB internet for 3 months if they purchase the Camon 16. In addition to this, customers also get 100% bonus on all bundles they activate for 90 days.
We reviewed the Camon 15 and it was an amazing piece of hardware even though it didn’t have of the changes from its predecessor. However, the Camon 16 Premier turns this around, as it comes with the, according to a reviewer’s opinion much need upgardes like the display, cameras, chipset, battery to mention a few. Prior the launch of the Camon 16 Premier, a number of Ugandan celebrities including musicians, news anchors, comedians pre-order the phone, thus this gives a chance to other consumers to try it out and own it.
A quick review, the dual-SIM (supports two 4G LTE sim cards), comes with a 6.9-Inches IPS LCD, 90Hz, HDR10+ display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 2460 pixels. Under the hood, it runs on Android 10 coupled with HIOS v6.0 —comes with a Mediatek MT6785 Helio G90 chipest (from a quick run we conducted it’s pretty fast), Octa-core processor, 8GB RAM, 128GB internal storage which can be expanded for more storage.
Its cameras, are the quad-rear camera with 64MP (main) + 8MP (ultra-wide) + 2MP (depth) + 2MP (video) sensors while the dual-front camera comes with 48MP (wide) + 8MP (ultra-wide) sensors.
Having got the Tecno Camon 16 Premier which is priced at UGX1,099,000, these were our first impressions;
1. HDR10+ Display
Camon 16 Premier comes with a 6,9-Inches IPS LCD, 90Hz, HDR10+ display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 2460 pixels. This is a total catch since it gives more viewership. Entertaining yourself on this is a fantastic A+ given that it supports HDR10+. The display gives a more realistic view, and better HDR experience. It is able to bring out the blacks and whites clear, and the saturation and luminance —giving users clear brighter colors.
2. 4K Video Shooting
Unlike the Camon 15 Premier, the 16 comes with 4K video-shooting capabilities. It is an impressive feature considering that smartphone manufacturers are adopting to these resolution capabilities. The rear cameras are able to shoot video in 4K at 30fps, 1080p at 30fps and 720p at 960fps.
4K recording is the next big thing for recording videos today, though earlier it was the only FullHD resolution. Tecno upgrading to this is because the Camon 16 Premier has a powerful processor and its cameras come with higher resolutions.
3. Fast Charging
The phone comes with a non-removable battery of 4,500mAh —the capacity of the battery isn’t the catch but it being to support fast charging. The company advertised that the user can 70% battery life in 30 minutes. Well the theory is right as we were able to get 65% in 38 minutes. But that is enough juice as it can push you through out the day.
