Cupertino-based tech firm, Apple Inc. is rumored to unveil the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in RED Editions today. This follows the launch of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in RED Editions last year in March. The Red phablets by the Apple aim to support RED; an NGO that raises awareness and funds to help eradicate HIV/AIDS in eight African countries, namely Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, and Zambia.
Details about the new limited edition RED iPhone models were reportedly first spotted in an internal Virgin Mobile memo.
Accoridng to MacRumors reports, a memo has been distributed to Virgin Mobile employees that confirms the iPhone 8 and 8+ RED Editions will be listed by the carrier on Monday, April 9th.
The new models are said to be initially available for pre-orders, though their availability details and prices are likely to be revealed through a press release later today.
Apple has so far been a long-standing partner company for RED and raised over USD$130 million. The red color treatment is to support RED and contribute a part of their sales to the Global Fund HIV/AIDS grants that provide testing, counselling, treatment, and prevention programmes with a focus specifically to eliminate transmission of the virus from mothers to their babies.
Apple’s (PRODUCT) RED line includes the Apple Watch Band, iPod touch, iPod nano, iPad Air 2 Smart Case, iPhone 6S case, and iPhone 6S Plus.
