One of the worlds biggest events, Consumer Electronics Show (CES, and formerly known officially as International CES); a global consumer electronics and consumer technology trade-show kicked off last weekend on Sunday 7th, 2018 – and being the second week of the year, tech firms are coming out to unveil some of their latest products coming to market.
The event is always the first biggest event to kick off every year scheduled to take place in January at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Nevada, U.S. The annual trade show organized by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) typically hosts presentations of new products and technologies in the consumer electronics industry, from thousands of companies all over the world.
Having kicked off already, firms such as Samsung, LG, Nvidia, Uber, Volkswagen, HP, Acer, to mention a few have arrived unveiled some of their newest products. Unlike the rest mentioned here, according to reports by Thomson Reuters, Nvidia has partnered with Uber Technologies and Volkswagen as the graphics chipmaker’s artificial intelligence platforms make further gains in the autonomous vehicle industry. Notably, Uber has been using Nvidia’s GPU computing technology since its first test fleet of Volvo SC90 SUVs were deployed in 2016 in Pittsburgh and Phoenix.
1. Samsung
The South Korean-based Electronics firm has unveiled what can be called it’s first ever 146-inch ‘modular’ TV dubbed; ‘The Wall’, the micro-LED TV which is said to ‘transform in to any size’ while showing bright and colorful content.
“As the world’s first consumer modular MicroLED television, ‘The Wall’ represents another breakthrough. It can transform into any size, and delivers incredible brightness, color gamut, color volume and black levels,” said Jonghee Han, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.
The company also announced its first curved monitor dubbed; the CJ791, with Thunderbolt 3 connectivity as well.
2. LG
The South Korea-based conglomerate firm has also unveiled its much-anticipated 65-inch 4K UHD rollable OLED display. The new prototype is much larger in size than the original 18-inch OLED display but has the same foldable design that rolled up to offer easy movability and storage. This will help to deliver better space utilization alongside enabling a large TV-viewing experience.
The company on its list has also unveiled its 88-inch 8K OLED display with 3.1 channel sound that would be the world’s first 88-inch panel to sport 8K resolution, taking on Samsung’s latest 85-inch 8K QLED TV.
3. HP
The Palo Alto, California-based multinational information technology firm has announced its brand new Chromebox G2 – since their last launch in 2014, which means that the new device has been a long time coming. At the CES, HP is already showcasing many products with the Google’s Chrome OS. Last week, it had announced its latest range of Chromebook laptops: Chromebook 11 G6 and Chromebook 14 G5.
4. Acer
The Taiwanese-based multinational hardware and electronics has launched a bunch of new notebooks and gaming laptops – i.e. the new Acer Swift 7, which is the touted to be the world’s thinnest laptop, the Acer Spin 3 that has multiple modes, and the Acer Nitro 5 gaming laptop. Additionally, the firm also announced the US availability of the Predator Orion 9000 and the Switch 7 Black Edition during its CES press briefing which were showcased at the IFA 2017 last August.
