UNCDF set to Launch the Renewable Energy Challenge Fund Solar Window
The United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) will on 8th November, 2017 at the Metropole Hotel launch a Call for Expression of Interest (EoI) for the Renewable Energy Challenge Fund (RECF): Solar Window a forum that aims to accelerate the deployment of decentralized solar energy solutions such as off-grid solar PV and mini-grids in Uganda.
RECF is looking to co-invest in commercially driven business ideas that can lead to breakthroughs in the uptake of such solutions by households, businesses and communities across the country.
During the session, UNCDF will present the objectives of the call; provide guidelines on the application process and answer questions from participants. The UNCDF team and its partners will also highlight key innovations and opportunities identified for this solar window as well as lessons learnt from previous UNCDF challenge funds.
This will be followed by a networking event during which companies will have a chance to meet with the UNCDF team to exchange ideas and ask questions. Companies are also encouraged to interact with their peers from the solar industry and other stakeholders in attendance.
UNCDF will also host a Q&A webinar on November 10th for those companies unable to attend the information session which will later be posted on the RECF website.
The goal of the RECF is to increase access to renewable, efficient energy for domestic, productive and social uses amongst undeserved poor households, businesses, and communities, especially in rural areas.
By the end of 2020, RECF aims to support 150,000 low-income customers to transition to renewable energy.
