California-based higher learning institution; Singularity University is looking for East African innovators that have an idea or working on a solution that can solve one of the 12 Global Grand Challenges – worldwide problems that are too big to ignore, .i.e: including energy, environment, food, shelter, space, water, governance, health, learning, prosperity, security and disaster resilience.
Organized by Kenya’s-Based ICT firm; ICT Authority, the purpose of the challenge is to foster moonshot innovations and startups that positively impact the lives of people living in East Africa, with an ability to scale and impact a billion people worldwide in 10 years.
The East Africa regional winner will get a full scholarship worth $35,000 (roughly 125.8 million UGX) to attend the prestigious Global Solutions Program at Singularity University in San Francisco. The program will run from June 17th to August 17th 2017.
How to Apply:
The challenge is open to residents and citizens in East Africa countries and applicants who are willing to compete in the challenge, follow the link here to apply before, 13th March, 2017. And the Pitch Day Event will be held on 23rd March, 2017 at the Louis Leakey Auditorium National Museum of Kenya.
Applicants should be 21 years old or older to apply for the challenge, fluent in written and spoken English and must be able to participate for the entire program.
Applicants selected as finalists will be interviewed by a panel of judges on 24th March 2017.
Assessment Criteria:
- Degree of solution’s relevance to the theme of the challenge.
- The regional relevance in solving the challenge in East Africa.
- Feasibility, Viability and Coherence of implementing the idea.
- Entrepreneurial and innovative potential, with a focus on technological novelty.
- Applicant’s leadership experience and quality, profile, achievements, and potential.
