All month, talk about town has been the celebration of women and we hail hail whoever gazetted this month to this much needed celebration. We sometimes however wonder who decides which woman should be praised and who shouldn’t (okay, not exactly but you know what we mean). In fact many of us will argue that our own ladies in family and friends circles are just as phenomenal as those celebrated the world over! And you couldn’t be more correct.
Take a look at the ladies and gentlemen who’ll decide which accolade goes to which lady at the MTN Women In Business Awards Gala, the judges! Who’s who?
1.Hon. Maria Kiwanuka – Radio One & Two
Hon. Maria Kiwanuka is a Ugandan economist, businesswoman and politician who served as Minister of Finance in the Cabinet of Uganda from 27 May 2011 to 1 March 2015. Since 2015 she has been Senior Advisor to the President of Uganda on financial matters, responsible for the Bretton Woods Institutions.
Prior to her current position, she was the Managing Director of Radio One and Radio Two, in Uganda, in which her family owns majority shareholding. She also served as a non-Executive board member on the Board of Directors of the Aga Khan Foundation (East Africa), the Nabagereka Development Trust, Nkumba University, Uganda Development Bank and Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited.
2. Aggie Asiimwe Konde – Managing Director, Africa Broadcasting Limited
Aggie Asiimwe Konde is the Managing Director of NTV Uganda and has over 15 years’ experience in business management.
Prior to working for Nation Media Group, Aggie was Head of Sales & Marketing at Crown Beverages Ltd a Pepsi Cola franchise in Uganda where she was responsible for leading and evolving the distribution and marketing value chain for market parity. She also worked as Marketing and Circulation Manager Monitor Publications Ltd and with British American Tobacco as Trade Development Manager.
She is a girl- child mentor and is passionate about enabling the girl child unlock their potential. Aggie is married to Stanley with three adorable daughters. She is a health and wellness freak and loves reading, swimming and golf during her free time.
3. Dr. Margaret Blick Kigozi – Director, Crown Beverages
Doctor Margaret Blick Kigozi, commonly known as Dr. Maggie Kigozi, is a Ugandan medical doctor, business consultant, educator and sportswoman. Currently, she works as a consultant at United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). She formerly served as the Executive Director of the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), from 1999 until 2011.
In 1994, following the sudden death of her husband, she joined Crown Bottlers Uganda Limited, as the Marketing Director. During her tenure at Crown Bottlers, she was appointed board member of Uganda Manufacturers Association. She worked at the bottling company until she was appointed Executive Director at Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) in 1999. She is the first person and first woman to serve in that position at UIA.
4. Zipporah Mungai – MD, UAP Insurance Uganda
Zipporah Mungai, currently the Managing Director of UAP Properties Limited Uganda since November 2012, has 20 years of experience in insurance from Kenya and Tanzania.
She has nurtured and developed strong producer relationships with key brokers across the East African region, particularly, AON, Marsh, ARIS and Gras Savoye, and entrenched a high performing distribution network of agents, outlets and brokers co-existing peacefully.
Zipporah has the ability to work in diverse cross cultural settings, proven strength in strategy execution and results achievement and also got the ability to focus teams on the performance and results through routines and share the vision of the desired outcome. Additionally, she has much interest in Golf and International travels.
5. Mr. George Egaddu – Chairman, MTN Foundation
Mr. George Egaddu has worked for more than 35 years with Coopers and Lybrand in accounting; audit; taxation & secretarial services; liquidations and receiverships; due diligence reviews; other agreed upon procedures and management consulting. He has extensive audit and accountancy knowledge and experience gained from servicing a wide client portfolio including many of the large businesses in both the public, private and financial sectors in the UK and Uganda.
Between 1974 and June 2003 he led teams in providing statutory audits, project audits, internal audits, value for money audits, agreed upon procedures, investigations, receiverships and liquidations, fiscal agency services, taxation, company secretarial services and carried out due diligence reviews.
6. Steven Kirenga – Enterprise Marketing Manager, MTN Uganda
Steven is a young, dynamic and enterprising telecoms professional at MTN Uganda. He current role is that of Enterprise Marketing Manager. Steven is a tech enthusiast and local developer supporter.
Steven is a social media addict and would be devastated, yes devastated, if his smart phone went missing.
