The 3rd Annual Social Media Awards (SMA) is here again. The Uganda SMA honors the best of social media, recognizing the people and organizations from the likes of; Topowa, Share a coke, The Pearl Guide, MTN Uganda, URA, Katoto and so much more from different categories, who are producing real-time short form content across Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Vine, Snap-chat and the rest of the social Web, with their esteemed partners from Facebook, Google, WebGrowth Academy, Fenon Entertainment, Trace and Opera. The ceremony will take place in Kampala at the Serena Hotel this month as part of the Inaugural Digital Marketing Conference.

Determined by statistics and looking at the Bloggers dashboard to map views and reach, aesthetics and blog design are considered, writing style and content and whether the blog set out to give its declared audience what they wanted in a manner that also considered spreading the content through use of social media.
Social media accounts or campaigns dedicated to promoting consumer-facing brands. Objectives may include new product launches, offers and promotions and building a strong fan base. Kindly submit a brand story for your brand on social media include the following metrics. Social media likes on face-book, views on you-tube and followers on IG and Twitter.
Include engagement graphs over the period Jan – Dec 2015. Highlight what you feel was the best campaign for your brand for the year.
Best Fast Moving Consumer Goods Brand (FMCG) on Social Media
This awards honors the best use of social media in a marketing campaign by a food/Alcoholics or beverage brand. Campaign objectives may include the launch of a new beverage, the opening of a restaurant, the promotion of a sustainable food brand and more.
Best Financial Brand on Social Media
This award honors brands and organizations in the financial services industry who use social and digital media in the most effective and creative ways to create a positive and seamless experience for existing users and to gain trust and loyalty from potential/ attracting new users. Insurance companies, Banks, credit cards, money management and financial services are eligible for this award.
Best in Technology on Social Media
Consumer electronics, telecommunication services and technology brands are eligible for this award. Objectives include product launches, encouraging brand loyalty, promotions and deals and thought leadership initiatives.
Best Integrated Social Media Campaign
This award honors the most effective and creative campaign spanning multiple digital and social platforms. Entry should describe how content was modified and enhanced for each platform, worked together to create a unifying message and succeeded in meeting its goals.
Best Media/News Outlet
This award recognizes the most effective use of social media to disseminate news and information. Submissions for both coverage of specific news events and for overall performance will be accepted.
Best Social Good Campaign
This category honors a brand or non-profit’s excellence in running a Social Good Campaign. Campaign objectives may include increasing awareness for a cause, inspiring action for a cause, crowd funding for a social good project and promoting philanthropic work.
Best Use of Social Media by a State body / Individual
Open to government bodies, Parastatals, Civil service Organizations and more- Show preferred social media platforms and how these have been effective in driving change for the collective good or achieving set goals.
Best Video / YouTube Campaign
This category honors the most creative and effective incorporation of video content in a social media marketing campaign. Extra points if it was marketed and run on YouTube.
Best Customer Care Across Social Media
This award recognizes companies that are using social media to enhance their customer experience. Specific examples are encouraged. Judging criteria include:
- Response time.
- Turn Around Time (TAT) Scores.
- 24/7 Availability.
- Quality, tone, overall friendliness and manner of response, language and phrase.
- Voice of Customer.
- Top Social Drivers (classification and nature of queries handled online).
- Number of Responded to vs un-responded to questions.
Innovation & Best Mobile App
Retail and e-commerce brands, e-commerce platforms and retail publications are eligible for this award. Objectives include exclusive deals to incentive social sharing, engaging existing customers and driving new traffic.
Social Media for Small Business
This award honors the best small business use of social media to engage with and share useful content as well as effectively sell a product embraced by the public. Please share a presentation of your business and its growth pattern on social media. Please include – the percentage of sales you can attribute to social media.
The ceremony will have Neil Pursey; CEO & Founder Webgrowth Academy, Justin Anyona; Agency Manager Google Inc, Jo Crawshaw; Senior Marketing & PR Manager Sub-Saharan Africa Opera Software and Naheed Hirji; Partnerships Manager Facebook who will be the speakers of the ceremony.
Ng’endo Machua; digital strategist and a copywriter, Richard Zulu; founder and lead at Outbox, Barbara Birungi; founder of Women In Technology Uganda and Badru Ntege; CEO of NFT Consult Limited will be the judges of the ceremony.
