Africa Energy Firms Urged to Embrace Technology

SAP Africa one of the leading multinational software has encouraged energy utilities in the continent to adopt modern technologies to enhance operations.

According to SAP officials,  energy firms need to be disrupted in such a manner due to the influence of technology.

Pedro Guerreiro, Head of Sales, Energy and Natural Resources at SAP Africa pointed out that big data systems and the smart grid were the new paradigm for the energy business model, saying old business models, in particular, are under pressure to reinvent or be discarded by new mavericks.

According to SAP, firms which have adopted Smart grid concepts, on average, reported 61 percent higher returns by reducing breakdowns and improving the effectiveness of their equipment.

Also, Health, environmental and safety audit costs have halved, while billing errors dropped by 28 percent.
