Airtel Uganda hosts Arsenal legend, Lauren Mayer

Airtel Uganda is this weekend hosting Arsenal Legend and Ex Cameroonian International Player who was once part of “Arsenal Invisible”. The Arsenal Invisibles distinguished themselves by playing scintillating football premised on smooth short passes and awesome dribbling that enabled the team to go unbeaten for the entire season into the next for 49 games!!

Mr. Dapo Olasope, the Finance Director Airtel Uganda who was representing the Managing Director at the press conference this Saturday morning at Africana Hotel stated that, “Football is key strategic touch point for Airtel customer base and moreover, Uganda has a strong Arsenal fan base.” He went on to add that the Arsenal Legend has a powerful story behind his success- that of from modesty to Stardom and that this will therefore re-enforce our Airtel Rising Stars proposition among the grass root children that we are trying to support.

The legend himself, Mr. Lauren Bisan Mayer, stated that “Airtel Rising Stars are very lucky to be backed by these strong brands that are focused on helping them realize their dreams and encourage them to love soccer as a sport.” He expressed a passion for developing young talent and his pleasure at having a chance to inspire young Ugandans.

Also present was Arsenal FC Official Mr. Luke Wilson and Airtel Chief Human Resources Officer for Africa Mr. David Ssegawa and the winners of the last Airtel Rising Stars Season II

The Vice President of the Federation of Uganda Football Associaton, commended Airtel and Arsenal for getting involved in developing young talent and improving the quality of football in Uganda. “Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Airtel and my favorite club Arsenal F.C. on behalf of all the Ugandans that have benefitted and those that are yet to benefit from this partnership. Such a partnership will groom our Ugandan youth by instilling in them theses desirable qualities and definitely breed future Ugandan stars in the game” He said

The Legend had time to interact with his fans at Champions Bar at Naalya Metroplex on Saturday Night where he answered questions and gave out prizes to winners of a trivia quiz.

Early Sunday Morning, Lauren Bisan spent time with 12 under 16 players from Kampala Junior Team who have participated in the Airtel Rising Stars Challenge. He trained them and passed on some skills and Arsenal mementos.

In the evening, after playing some interactive soccer video games and foosball, with some fans, Mr. Mayer then watched the Arsenal-Manchester United Football Match at a live Screening at the Serena Hotel hosted by Airtel Uganda.

At this function, Airtel Uganda Managing Director Mr. V.G. Somasekhar stated, “Airtel and Arsenal FC are committed through this partnership to grow the quality of Ugandan Football through the ARS challenge.” He added that it was a great honor to have Lauren Mayer in our midst for inspiration and that football in Uganda would never be the same.

The Lord Mayor, Mr. Elias Lukwago, who was guest of Honor at the event, also expressed his gratitude to Airtel and Arsenal for bringing one of the “invincibles” team to Uganda. He commended the two companies for supporting football and requested them to consider supporting some local teams.

The Match ended with a draw 1:1 and the viewers with the correct predictions won some jerseys and autographed mementos from Lauren Bissan.
