Smartphone Users Annoy Bosses by Checking Work Emails

The study, which polled more than 2,000 British adults, found that one in 10 smartphone users check their work emails while on holiday, while one in six use their internet connected phones to read messages at the weekend and on days off.

Men are more likely to annoy their female partners when checking their emails while away from the office rather than the other way around. Thirty-seven per cent of men who own a smartphone said their partners were annoyed at this activity, compared with 28 per cent of the women polled by YouGov, on behalf of customer service provider Firstsource Solutions.

The survey was carried out in a bid to find out how the growth in smartphones has affected people’s work and life balance.

A quarter of 25 to 44 year olds who own a smartphone use it to access emails once they have finished work.

Santanu Nandi, executive vice-president of Firstsource Solutions’ Telecom and Media division, said: “This survey shows that smartphones have become an indispensable part of every day life and people feel the need to check their work emails regularly, even when not at work.”
