Uganda: Democratic Party website hacked

The website of Democratic Party (DP), one of the oldest political parties in Uganda has been hacked by RealQW. The website joins the already-long list of high-profile Ugandan websites defaced by the same hackers, including Red Pepper, a daily tabloid, and New Vision the country’s leading daily. This development comes just weeks before the General elections in the country. Newspaper reports earlier this week suggested that Democratic Party candidate, Norbert Mao is probably ahead of FDC’s Dr. Kizza Besigye in the presidential race. Besigye has been the strongest member of the opposition for over a decade.

As such, the move has been viewed as a political one, with some circles suggesting that RealQW is probably Ugandan. The message left by the hackers made direct reference to the Forum for Democratic Change, FDC.

The hacked DP website was developed on Joomla Content Management System.
