Tecno’s Camon 50 series debuted in Uganda in Feb 2026 as an “AI-powered” midrange flagship lineup. Both models share a 6.78‑inch 144 Hz AMOLED screen, large battery, and Helio G200 chipset, with the Pro adding a curved display and extra telephoto camera. The Camon 50 is priced at UGX 1,090,000 and the 50 Pro at UGX 1,190,000, making them competitive in the mid-range and budget-friendly segment.
The Tecno Camon 50 series is available in Moonlight Black, Malachite Green, Fir Green, Lavender Mist, and Mint Cream. Both models can be bought at Tecno’s stores nationwide, Jumia, and at any MTN Uganda service centres.
Having received the Camon 50 Pro for a hands-on review, here’s our take.
Upon purchase, the package is the same —clean, minimal, and consistent with the brand’s standard retail presentation. So what you see on the shelf is exactly what you get; neatly sealed, which gives that satisfying “fresh out of the box” experience.
Build, design, and display
The build and design aren’t very different from the predecessor, just a few minor tweaks. Right out of the box, the Camon 50 Pro makes a strong impression. Its curved display and sleek build give it a premium, flagship-like feel that stands out in the mid-range market. It is also slimmer and lighter than its predecessor, and that combination matters because it makes the phone feel balanced, not top-heavy, not bulky, not tiring during long use.
On the left side, you get a one-touch button similar to what we have on iPhones. That is the action button. This allows you to quickly access apps, shortcuts, and AI, whatever action you have set it to do. At the bottom of the frame, you have the Type-C charging port, a single speaker grill, and a dual nano SIM slot, excluding the microSD card. At the top, you have a microphone, a secondary speaker, and an IR blaster, which allows you to use the phone as a remote for your supported appliance. The volume and power buttons appear on the right side of the frame. Finally, at the front, you get a punch-hole selfie camera and an in-display fingerprint sensor that is reliable, while at the back, a trio-camera setup, LED-light, and a light indicator for charging your phone, and notifications.
The Camon 50 Pro comes with IP68/IP69K ingress protection, which is a big plus for durability. This offers resistance against dust, water (high-pressure water jets; immersible up to 2m for 30 min), and drops.
The phone comes with a massive 6.78-Inch in curved AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate, making scrolling and animations very smooth. The display stands out for its immersive look and fluid responsiveness. The curved panel blends seamlessly into the frame, giving the device a premium, almost bezel-less appearance from certain angles. Scrolling feels incredibly smooth thanks to the 144Hz refresh rate, while the AMOLED panel offers vibrant colors and deep contrast, good enough for multimedia.
The brightness levels and eye-comfort certification make it suitable for prolonged viewing—whether indoors or outdoors.
Overall, I think the build, design, and display are really good. They make the phone have a premium feeling as it feels like an expensive device.
Performance, software, and battery
Powered by the Mediatek Helio G200 Ultimate chipset, an upgrade from the G100 in its predecessor. The Camon 50 Pro delivers dependable mid-range and decent performance. Everyday tasks feel smooth, and the device handles multitasking and AI-driven features without issues.
It comes with up to 8GB of RAM (expandable to 16GB) and 256GB of storage, ensuring enough headroom for most users.
Gaming performance is respectable, yes, the Camon 50 Pro is capable of gaming with titles like Call of Duty running at medium settings and PUBG performing well at HD graphics with high frame rates. While extended gaming sessions may cause slight heating, overall performance remains stable for its category.
Software-wise, the Camon 50 Pro runs on Android 16 coupled with Tecno’s HiOS 16, bringing a refined interface with features like depth effects and enhanced customization—some even drawing inspiration from Apple’s iOS, but with added flexibility. Tecno promises up to three major Android upgrades, which is a reassuring commitment for long-term software support.
As for the battery life, it is excellent thanks to the big 6,200mAh cell (Tecno calls it 6,500mAh with “5‑year durability”). With normal to heavy use, one should easily get a day of battery life. The battery supports 45 W fast charging (40–45% in 30 min), fully charging in about an hour and 20 minutes. There’s no wireless charging or reverse-charge function, but wired charging keeps the device relatively cool.
Camera Performance
The Camon 50 Pro comes with a highly capable camera system that makes it one of the most versatile options in its price range. It features a trio-rear camera setup, a 50MP Sony main sensor, a 50MP 3x telephoto lens, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 32MP front-facing camera. Together, these lenses deliver strong image quality, with detailed shots, natural color reproduction, and solid dynamic range across different lighting conditions.
Portrait photography is one of the device’s standout strengths. Tecno has included multiple focal length options—24mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 70mm—that give users more creative control and allow for different photographic styles, from wider environmental portraits to tighter, more focused shots. This makes the camera feel closer to a professional setup than a typical mid-range smartphone.
The phone also introduces features designed for more dynamic shooting. Flash Snap 2.0 helps users capture fast-moving subjects with greater ease, while AI-powered auto zoom automatically reframes shots to improve composition. For moments when subjects are far away, the 60x digital zoom extends the camera’s reach even further, supported by AI processing that sharpens details beyond what appears in the preview.
Photography remains at the heart of the Camon series, and the 50 Pro pushes that identity further with smarter camera software and AI integration. Tecno has added tools such as AI Auto Zoom for subject tracking, flexible focal lengths for portrait variation, a universal tone algorithm for more accurate skin tone reproduction, and live photos with 3D effects for added depth.
On the AI side, the phone also separates creative tools from practical ones, offering features like AI-generated animations, artistic filters, screen summarization, reflection removal, and content extraction. This combination gives the Camon 50 Pro a camera experience that is not only versatile but also intentionally built for creativity and convenience.
Verdict
The Tecno Camon 50 Pro packs some high‑end features (big AMOLED display, massive battery, flagship glass and IP rating, advanced camera system) into an affordable midrange package. Performance is adequate for most users, though power users should not expect flagship gaming scores. The real strengths are the cameras and endurance: both phones will last well over a day on a charge and have a flexible trio-camera array with AI tricks.
The Camon 50 Pro is arguably the better buy if you value zoom and a premium feel. In summary, the handset as well as the Camon 50 represent excellent value for price, especially for photo/video enthusiasts.
