MTN Uganda is making health and life insurance accessible to millions of its customers with MTN senkyu points and aYo insurance services.
aYo is an insurance service that provides fast, convenient, easy-to-use hospital and life cover directly to a user’s mobile phone, and over the last 5 years has enrolled 16 million customers across the African markets that it is active in.
To access aYo products, one must simply register on the mobile phone for aYo recharge with Care and get a minimum of 30 days’ aYo cover every time they load MTN airtime or one can also subscribe to aYo send with Care cover to the money you send home through MTN mobile money.
Nabachwa Dina a lumberjack by profession living in Kyengera has been an aYo subscriber since 2018 and applied to the Recharge with Care plan where airtime deductions of UGX100 were taken off every time she loaded airtime on her phone.
However, in 2021 Nabachwa was involved in a life-threatening boda boda accident that left her bedridden for a month in a hospital. She was so devasted at the loss of mobility during that time and the effect it had on her business.
“The accident was bad that I had to remain in the hospital for a whole month without working and the hospital bill just kept accumulating. I was afraid of how I would manage the costs that came with me not working for that period,” said Nabachwa.
“However, when I was discharged from the hospital, I told my mother and brothers that I had signed up for aYo with MTN and I could receive health insurance that would cover my hospital bill. They disagreed with me saying that might be fraudulent, but it wasn’t, I put in my claim and I got it through mobile money,” she added.
In a bid to extend insurance services to its customers, MTN has added aYo to its senkyu loyalty program enabling more customers to access insurance for the first time.
MTN Uganda has made it possible for its customers to earn insurance with aYo through the senkyu loyalty program. With a deduction of 75 senkyu points, one gets a health cover of UGX120,000 and a life cover of UGX90,000 that goes to one’s beneficiaries in case of their unfortunate demise.
The MTN Uganda senior Manager, Digital services, Ms. Susan Kayemba said that by subscribing to aYo insurance, and using MTN Senkyu, customers will have peace of mind that in the event of an accident, aYo will help them take care of their hospital bills and in the event of your passing away, aYo will help support their family financially
“Innovation underscores MTN’s commitment to providing its customers with the benefits of a modern connected life,” she added.
To access this service, customers can simply *141# and select aYo to subscribe to this option. Once a customer signs up for aYo through Senkyu, 75 points will be deducted from their wallet every month for 6 months. During this time, they will be provided with cover equivalent to UGX90,000 worth of aYo MyLife Cover and UGX120,000 worth of aYo MyHospital Cover that caters to accidents.
